YOUTH 4 PEACE
BUILDING PEACE TOGETHER
Youth 4 Peace
Young women and young men have a critical role in promoting and maintaining peace and security. Contrary to most popular representations, the majority of youth are not violent. Rather, they can – and do – play active roles as agents of positive and constructive change.
As Peacebuilders, We Walk Together Towards News Ways Of Overcoming Injustices – Working To Prevent, Interrupt & Stop Violence In Nonviolent Ways. We Are Shifting Narrative & Power Towards Equity & Justice. With Empathy & Dialogue, We Are Persevering – Even In The Most Confronting Places. We Honor The Dignity Of Others & Ourselves, Looking Beyond Any Obstacles, Seeing The Unseen, Always Reflecting, Learning & Connecting To Build A Culture Of Peace.
Films 4 Peace has created a unique curriculum designed to empower our youth with practical knowledge and skills to apply peacebuilding theory to situations of destructive conflict in their communities. It equips them to organise activities for children, work with youth and adults, train other volunteers, and gather support by building and strengthening community networks and partnerships.
YOUTH PEACE LEADERSHIP
Youth 4 Peace took place in Cox’sBazar, Bangladesh, with a strong regional emphasis. Bringing together 60 young peacebuilders, we provided a unique space to build concrete and meaningful partnerships beyond mere networking. The three-day Youth 4 Peace leadership event saw multi-angled discussions around the role of youth in peacebuilding, engaging with a range of relevant stakeholders, and as well as thematic experts.
Our facilitators created an interactive methodology around 4 main themes that they identified as relevant challenges to youth inclusion:
i. Conflict and Violence;
iii. inequity and unequal access to resources (across genders);
iv. and human rights violations.
Drawing from participants’ diversity in terms of expertise and experience, the Forum comprised a variety of settings (both formal and informal), such as small group discussions, plenary presentations, and experiential learning sessions.
Youth Peace Leadership program was an opportunity to develop peer-to-peer, cooperation around conflict transformation, providing young peacebuilders and activists—across the Bangladesh especially—with a platform to share their work, their knowledge, and combine efforts, building networks of regional cohesion. A momentous event, such as the Youth 4 Peace, also increases visibility of the positive contributions young people are making to transform their communities. This is especially important for those working in less visible contexts, to create a unified movement and connect them to relevant stakeholders who can support their invaluable work for peace.
